The Sciaz Farm
With the help of his father David, Michel Isoz, (otherwise known as Piat) runs the family farm, the Sciaz, in La Lecherette situated at 1450 meters altitude in the region of Château-d’Oex.
With a herd of 20 heads of cattle, these dairy cows provide the milk required to produce Michel’s specialty cheese, the Piat. This soft cheese is unique to the region of the Pay-d’Enhaut.
The closest thing to a ‘Piat’ cheese is the Savoyard Reblochon AOC. Piat cheese is sold in the majority of shops in the Pays-d’Enhaut along with many other shops in the Lake Leman region. With a monthly production of 300 wheels of cheese, this delicious ‘high in calorie but affordable price’ specialty can be found during the winter months on the ski slopes in the Vaud Alps….this specialty is called the Tartipiat. The Tartipiat is a filling meal of melted cheese and potatoes. It resembles the Tartiflette and can warm up even the coldest skiers!
In the summer months in the alpine chalet, the Fenil-Aux-Vaux, Piat cheese is produced along with the famous L’Etivaz AOC cheese, Raclette and cottage cheese.
The Isoz family welcomes you to their alpine chalet and invites you to experience the benefits of a milk bath while enjoying the warmth of the sun or the beauty of the night sky. You can also sign up for their program, Adopt a Cow, which allows you to visit and milk ‘your cow’ during the cheese producing season.
