With a rich tradition of arts and crafts, the Pays-d’Enhaut is famous for the number and quality of its artisans: paper cutters, lace makers, wood carvers, wooden shingle makers and blacksmiths. Try a visit to one of their workshops and, who knows, maybe you’ll leave with a magnificent souvenir.
The artisans of the Pays-d’Enhaut are happy to show off their crafts and their products. So spare a moment to linger in one or other of their workshops to watch them in action.
From decorative objects to the traditional pine shingles that cover the local roofs, our woodworkers all share the same passion and attention to detail. The dexterity of the paper cutter is a wonder to behold. And when you see that it takes up to ten hours with the bobbin to produce just a few centimetres of fabric, you’ll understand that the lace maker’s art is a matter of patience. Meanwhile the blacksmith will show you how to forge a horseshoe or to fashion one of the great cauldrons used in local cheese making.
These and other marvels are part and parcel of the craft traditions of the Pays-d’Enhaut.
