Artists and celebrities from around the world have always praised the shores of Lake Geneva and the Vaud Alps for their calm and inspiring landscapes.
The Pays-d'Enhaut is a muse for artists and adventurers, stimulated by the beauty of the area, who absorbs the energy of the mountain to exceed their limits.
For example, the painter Balthus who bought the Grand Chalet de Rossinière in 1977 and lived there until his death in 2001, and the British actor David Niven, who died and was buried in Château-d'Oex.
Adventurers who have chosen Pays-d'Enhaut as their starting point include Mike Horn, who embarked on the craziest expeditions all around the world. And of course Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones, the first men to have toured the world in hot air balloons. In 2016, Bertrand Piccard and his partner André Borschberg completed another journey, this time by solar airplane.
