New management and a new concept for the Ermitage at Château-d'Oex.
Sophie Labarraque took over management of the Ermitage, located 10 minutes from Château-d'Oex train station, on the 20th of last December. She has decided to revisit the attraction in her own way through major renovations. The Franco-Swiss former decorator worked in the world of luxury and fashion for several years. More recently, she travelled through French-speaking Switzerland at the wheel of a bus which had been transformed into a mobile art gallery. Exhibiting their work at public and private events was one way of highlighting the work of a set of hand-picked artists and craftsmen. Unique pieces, even old pieces found at flea markets. It was her love for art that prompted her to take over the Ermitage. Feeling slightly cramped, she was looking for a space in which to open a gallery. She bought the hotel and the restaurant that came with it.
"It is true that it may seem a little crazy. But the opportunity was too good to pass up” said the regular visitor to Pays-d'Enhaut. In addition to 16 rooms with balconies, the Guest House also has a tea room, a coffee corner, a wine bar, a large terrace, and of course, the "Le Cabinet de Curiosités Ambulant" exhibition space, named after her old project. “My goal was to create a place that brings people together. We are going to organise themed weekends, conferences and workshops, as well as cooking classes for children and adults which will be open to visitors and locals alike”. Every Wednesday morning from this spring, a market for local producers will be organised in the hotel’s car park. As an ambassador for authentic Pays-d'Enhaut products and slow food, the restaurant offers fresh seasonal dishes all year round.
Accessibility for people with reduced mobility in all facilities.
