So that the pleasures of skiing can be available to everybody, Capdenho Association has a pool of instructors specially trained to aid and teach persons of limited mobility. Now everyone can enjoy the thrills of winter and of skiing in complete safety.
The goal of the Capdenho association in Château-d’Oex is to promote leisure pursuits in Pays-d’Enhaut for everyone. One of its landmark projects is the organisation of sit-ski outings in the Château-d’Oex-La Braye ski area and the Schönried/Saanenmöser area, close to Gstaad. Capdenho trains the instructors and finds funding to finance the equipment and outings. The goal is to enable handicapped persons (mental and physical) and their families to experience the joys of skiing. This project has been made possible through a great collaboration with the Swiss Ski School in Château-d’Oex and financial support from the Etoile Filante and JustforSmiles Foundations and Loterie Romande. Last year, the President of the foundation, Eveline Charrière was overjoyed that no less than 200 special ski days took place “The feedback has been very positive, both from the participants and institutions involved. You can really see that we are meeting a need.
Capdenho does not intend to stop there, it has also supplied and fitted specialised equipment at the Restaurant de la Braye. The committee has also prioritised the development of year-round activities "so that specialised sports and leisure activities can be provided throughout the year". Contact has already been established with a number of service providers in Pays-d’Enhaut. Last winter, a weekend test was set up with CIMGO, a manufacturer of all-terrain wheelchairs, to look at providing this new leisure pursuit. The association has also appealed to all interested individuals and organisations to propose new activities, whether sports-related or not.
