Cultures and heritage of the Pays-d'Enhaut
A land of culture and traditions, the Pays-d'Enhaut has many cultural and historical sites and an exceptional heritage.
Arts and crafts
With a rich tradition of arts and crafts, the Pays-d’Enhaut is famous for the number and quality of its artisans: paper cutters, lace makers, wood carvers, wooden shingle makers and blacksmiths. Try a visit to one of their workshops and, who knows, maybe you’ll leave with a magnificent souvenir.
The Breitling Capsule
Historic! When Brian Jones and Bertrand Piccard completed the first non-stop flight around the world in a balloon, they took off from Château-d’Oex. It was their third attempt. Breitling Orbiter I, displayed near the Balloon Centre in the middle of the village, is the 1997 capsule used on the first.
Grand Chalet de Rossinière
The village of Rossinière is well-known for its architecture, with its beautiful chalets and their intricately carved facades. Follow the marked trail through the village past these houses typical for the Vaudois Alps and admire the scale and detail of the impressive Grand Chalet.
The Vanel Castle Ruins
You shouldn’t miss the chance to visit the ruins of Vanel Castle near Rougemont. Dating back to the tenth century, the fort served to control the valley road linking the strategic Mosses, Sanetsch and Pillon Passes. Its hilltop location affords superb views along the length of the valley.
